9 TIPS BEFORE YOUR PHOTO SHOOT

These are tips to help you think of ideas for preparing for your photo shoot. While not mandatory, they are guides to help ensure a successful, fun session.

  1. Wardrobe:  Plan ahead of time what outfit/outfits you or your family are going to wear.  Try to wear clothing that doesn't detract from your face.  Clothing should be free of logos.  Try to stay away from busy prints or loud colors. Think about how you want your portrait to look.  If you prefer a dreamy soft portrait, choose neutral colors such as, creams, soft pastels, oatmeal, light brown, tans, and slate blues work well.  For a more fun portrait, choose coordinating colors (not too matchy) with bold accent colors such as hues of gray with yellow or bright red accents.

  2. Please make sure all clothing is lint and hair free.  Your wardrobe should be put together, clean and ironed the night before.  Wrinkle-free clothing will help make your image more professional.

  3. Makeup: it is best to have a natural even skin tone, cover any blemishes.

  4. Fingers and toes should be groomed and clean.  If you plan on posing barefoot, be sure your feet and toes are in good condition.  When wearing nail polish, natural color nails (french, light pink, nude...) work well for professional head shots. Any color is fine for senior or family portraits.  Although, you will want to make sure your color choice doesn't detract from you or your face as the primary subject.

  5. All facial hair should be groomed.

  6. Hair cuts should be done a week to two weeks before your shoot date.

  7. For all, eyebrows should be groomed, teeth clean, and lips should not be dry. If needed, please bring lip balm with you to the session.

  8. Bring a brush, comb, etc. for touching up during the shoot.

  9. Get a good night's sleep and be well rested for your photo shoot.  Also, be sure to eat beforehand, if you are hungry you will be distracted during your session. You will not only feel better, but you will look better if you are well rested and energetic on the day of your shoot.

Again, these tips are suggestions on how to prepare ahead of time for your photo session.  Preparing ahead will help ensure a successful photo shoot that will result in beautiful, timeless images that you will treasure.
